My goal is for my household to be a bit over BA (have 2.12 times its expected net worth) by the time my DH is 50.

Starting Number (4/30/07) = 1.32 times expected net worth

First Year Quarterly Goals:
7/31/07 = 1.440 [Result: 1.510]
10/31/07 = 1.435 [Result: 1.569]
1/31/08 = 1.430 [Result: 1.541]
4/30/08 = 1.425 [Result: 1.400]

Second Year Quarterly Goals:
7/31/08 = 1.550 [Result = 1.515]

How to Secure a Rental Truck Door?

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to secure the back door of a rental truck? Is there some sort of portable alarm we could buy that would go off if someone tried to open it?

I'm concerned that someone may break in to our truck while it is parked in a hotel parking lot, and I'd feel much better if we had an alarm. Of course we'll have a standard lock, but I know that those can be cut.

I was going to look in to this a bit later (we aren't leaving until end of Sept), but after seeing Jeffrey's post about a $15 rebate from Paypal on purchases over $30, I'm thinking I may go ahead and buy something now.

One thing you can try: a baby monitor. If you can back up the truck close enough and plug the cord portion of the baby monitor into the plug in your room the walkie talkie piece could be placed in the back of your truck and you would hear in your room if anyone broke in. good luck!

I don't have any advice, but worst case scenario-- you can make sure whatever hotel you stay at has a security cam on the parking lot.

I would also suggest parking at a hotel where you can watch the vehicle from your room...

When we moved around, we did the lo-tech, cheap solution. We packed the valuables deeply in the truck (small ones in a suitcase that we took in the room), then parked so that the lock on the back of the truck was very close to a wall or barbed wire or my hotel room door (always like the ground floor) ... something so that stealing was unappealing and tactically very difficult. If you have to move a couch to get into anything, you've got to set up a ramp. And its very hard to set up a ramp with a 1-2 ft clearance. Works especially nicely if you park right in front of your hotel room.
