Cable company tried to pull a fast one

Last month we started having trouble with cable reception. Called the cable company; they agreed to send someone out free of charge.

When our bill arrived yesterday, there was a $20 service call charge on it. I called customer service, and they took the charge off. No excuses and no explanations. They never denied that the charge wasn't supposed to be there in the first place.

Do they just go ahead and charge all the time, hoping people aren't paying attention to their bills or won't question the charges? I have lost track of how many times things like this have happened to me over the years. No idea how much money I have saved by always scrutinizing my bills, but I'll bet it's a lot!

    I think that they do. I don't know which company you have, but mine tried to do the same thing. AND last week I was having problems with the connection in my bedroom. I only have regular cable, not digital, and the customer service girl kept telling me I couldn't get reception in my bedroom without a digital box! I asked her if thats true, why did I have cable there that morning? She couldn't answer me! She was just trying to get me to buy more service by telling me that. Those companies are shady.

    They charged me for installing DSL and a friend of mine did it for me. I had to dispute the charge also.

    I am not sure but I watch/read over my cable and phone bill with a fine tooth comb
