Honey, I Miss You When You're Out of Town, But ...

March 4th, 2009 at 04:56 pm

It sure is nice sometimes to just eat whatever I want for dinner! As long as it doesn't break the grocery budget and offers nutritional value, who cares if it only takes 3 minutes to prepare and 30 seconds to do the wash-up?

Tonight's menu? A green salad, egg whites nuked in the microwave (seasoned w/ Costco's store brand equivalent of "Mrs. Dash" and Kraft Parmesan Cheese), and Kashi frozen waffles topped with organic wild blueberries!

Martha Stewart I definitely ain't. But I am happy, full, don't have to deal with dishes this evening (I'm off to watch Lost guilt-free), and have managed to whip the grocery budget back in to shape during DH's absence.

It is totally the same with me... when my dh is gone, my meals become so much easier, inexpensive, and I can get creative w/o worrying about the results.

I know. I just had a week by myself and I hate to say it, there were few dishes to be done and I sleep much better alone than in bed with a 200 pound 6 ft 3 man! Ah, it's like I haven't gotten a good nights sleep since I got married.

I completely understand! Except for mine is my children! If my Dh doesn't want what I do(he isn't hard to please) he can fix something else. But I feel like I have to prepare meals for my kids!

HEHE... I do remember the days when it was such a novelty and quite a refreshing break to get some alone time for yourself to just... live. Even if it's only a day or so, it was so different and interesting to basically do whatever I wanted.

Isn't it true! It's like moving out on your own for the first time, but just for a few days. My kids love it when DH goes out of town. We do breakfast for dinner or sandwiches and chips.

I love it when hubby's out of town. You get to watch what you want on TV. You get to go to bed when you want. It's like getting to know the more 'authentic' you before you made all the compromises when joining your life with someone else. Its a good change when they leave.

I ditto my comments along with everyone else's here. You actually breathe a sigh of relief. All at once your life is yours not having to wait for the phone call about when the spouse will be home for dinner. You can also sleep later depending on the day. My grocery bill definitely goes down and my meals are more simplified even if it becomes a sandwich.

When I leave though life is totally differently around here including the amount of times that he eats out and the goodies that he buys when I'm not here.

3 minutes to prepare and 30 seconds to do the wash-up? That is great
