Time to Give a Bit Extra

October 24th, 2007 at 02:56 pm

There's a part of me that is very reluctant to talk about giving since it can seem like bragging, but this blog is anonymous and charitable giving is a part of PF, so here goes ...

DH & I have selected a few organizations that we donate to annually. But occasionally we give a bit extra when there seems to be an extraordinary need.

Now that the evacuations in Southern California have grown to such a large scale, this seems to be one of those times when those of us who have our own financial houses in order should reach out and help the poor families affected by this disaster.

So, the pooch & I are off to take a walk, and we will be stopping off at the mailbox to drop off a check to "United Animal Nations" which (among other things) assists in the rescue & sheltering of animals during disasters. I know their coffers will be seriously reduced during this disaster, and we want to do our little part to help in rebuilding them.

The local animal shelter by me is very active in rescuing pets involved in out of state natural disasters. After new orleans floods, they organized all sorts of trips down there, bring cats and dogs down there all the way up here to put up for adoption.

Some like to hear about other people's giving! I have learned a number of ways to give that I had not known about before reading the blogs and forums of SavingAdvice. This includes, now, United Animal Nations.

Oh, I don't think it is bragging at all. I think it would be rather uplifting to those who don't see the point of scrimping and saving - just another benefit - the ability to GIVE more!

We tend to send an extra check out when these big disasters hit - to Red Cross and the like. Hadn't thought about it yet so this was a good reminder.

I think it is fabulous you help out those in need and donate. Nothing wrong with talking about it. We all talk here about how much money we have saved, or how much we spend elsewhere; nothing wrong with talking about how much you donate to those who need it! Congrats on being in a place where you can do that, and also for doing that. You rock girl!!
