Any Scrapbookers Here?

Since I don't have kids, I've never caught the scrapbooking bug. I've thought it would be fun to do a small scrapbook of my dog, but didn't want to: 1) put the effort in to learning how to scrapbook, and 2) invest in all of the tools and cute doodads that seem to be required to scrapbook well.

Now, Costco Online is offering a "complete" kit for making a small dog scrapbook for $12.99 including shipping & handling. That seems like a very reasonable price to pay if that's really all I'll need. However, I'm skeptical that the kit is really all I will need, so before I spend my money I'd be grateful if any of you experienced scrapbookers could tell me:

1. The kit includes brads & charms. Will I need special tools to use those?

2. If I get the kit and check out a couple books on scrapbooking from the library, will I have what I need to make a fairly decent looking scrapbook? Or, is this something that takes classes and lots of experience to master?

check out the Kodak picture machines in grocery stores/drug stores/camera stores. For about $10.99 you can get a small soft-covered scrapbook using pictures from your digital camera/print medium which makes it awfully easy. No mess of cutting and it is point and click. The book is ready in about an hour. There are more advanced ones and you can choose from various pictures sizes. Might be perfect for your puppy pictures!

But secretly? I like the idea of scrapbooking. Well, a certain kind anyway. I don't mean the crazy 80's technicolor stuff that you see people pasting in black pages. I mean, a tastefully designed, nicely constructed, hand made book with its own personality and theme.

The right kind of papers, bindings, and style makes all the difference in the world.

I don't do it much though, but who knows? Maybe someday, I'll get involved more. Same thing with greeting cards and business cards also. I don't think it's "girly thing". It's just another medium to test your design chops on it.

Besides, as much as I enjoy my internet, who doesn't love a well-made book?

Oh, you asked for advice. Well, hmm, I have a hand drill, and you'll need to experiment with a glue you like. You'll also probably want a bone thingie to smooth it out. I think the best place to go are scrapbooking shops (if you are fortunate enough to have one within driving distance). They can give you the greatest insights. Overall, I THINK the material cost is the highest expense.

You don't need anything special for brads and I think the 12.99 kit will have everything you need. The hardest part is bringing your creativity! You can scrapbook from anything, even plain old construction paper. Buy it, try it. You don't need anything fancy, scissors, tape and pictures! Have fun!

I like the idea of scrapbooking too, but i'm like you, no kids. I LOVE the idea of doing one for your pet! Have fun and go for it!
